About BioMed X
BioMed X is an independent research institute with sites in Heidelberg, Germany, New Haven, Connecticut, XSeed Labs in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and a worldwide network of partner locations. We operate at the interface between academia and industry, performing biomedical research and drug discovery & development in the fields of oncology, immunology, neuroscience, platform technologies, and artificial intelligence. All our research projects are supported by leading pharmaceutical companies and conducted by early-career scientists recruited from the best schools around the world. The combination of global crowdsourcing with local incubation of the best research talents and ideas allows us to solve the biggest challenges in biomedical research. We stand for free, creative, and curiosity-driven research combined with a solid validation of results, timelines, and deliverables. We serve a large purpose in advancing translational biomedicine by leveraging synergies and fostering cross-pollination across disciplines.
About Team CHM
Arteries are crucial to maintain health and are compromised in multiple diseases. Current in vitro and in vivo models to study this complex tissue are labor-intensive and insufficient to understand human disease initiation, development, and resolution. Our group, led by Dr. Alicia Cutler, is bridging this gap by generating a de novo 3D in vitro artery with sufficient complexity to recapitulate key characteristics of arterial structure and function to mimic vessel inflammation. We will deploy this organotypic human arterial model to investigate the generation, progression, and resolution of vasculitis with the long-term goal of advancing patient treatment and curing disease.
The Position
We are looking for a highly enthusiastic post-doc to help drive the development of our artery model. We need a strong immunologist or cell biologist who can take initiative on inducing and characterizing vessel inflammation, isolating primary cells, and developing longitudinal assays. The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in immunology or cell biology and a strong background in mammalian cell culture. Experience culturing human primary cells is particularly desirable.
Required skills
- Expertise in immunology and/or inflammation
- Extensive cell culture experience is essential
- Ability to independently design, plan, execute, and interpret experiments
- Excellent communication skills in English
Additional preferred skills
- Experience with macrophage polarization and invasion
- Experience maintaining primary human cell culture
- Familiarity with 3D culture practices
- Flow cytometry experience
- Fluorescence microscopy experience
What we offer
- International, diverse, and positive work atmosphere, flexible working environment
- Access to a vast network in science and industry
- Employee benefits plan
Candidates are requested to submit
- 1-page cover letter explaining the reasons of interest to join our team
- Curriculum Vitae outlining scientific interests, research achievements, record of publications, future personal goals, and extra-scientific passions
- 2 references
The post is fully funded by AbbVie for a 2-to-4-year period.
