About BioMed X
BioMed X is an independent research institute with sites in Heidelberg, Germany, New Haven, Connecticut, XSeed Labs in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and a worldwide network of partner locations. We operate at the interface between academia and industry, performing biomedical research and drug discovery & development in the fields of oncology, immunology, neuroscience, platform technologies, and artificial intelligence. All our research projects are supported by leading pharmaceutical companies and conducted by early-career scientists recruited from the best schools around the world. The combination of global crowdsourcing with local incubation of the best research talents and ideas allows us to solve the biggest challenges in biomedical research. We stand for free, creative, and curiosity-driven research combined with a solid validation of results, timelines, and deliverables. We serve a large purpose in advancing translational biomedicine by leveraging synergies and fostering cross-pollination across disciplines.
About Team TAP
The objective of the group New Strategies to Target Autoreactive Plasma Cells (TAP), led by Dr. Eleonora Melzi, is to uncover the mechanisms underlying the development and persistence of autoreactive plasma cells and their pathogenic autoantibodies. By employing a combination of state-of-the-art single-cell transcriptomic and high-throughput antibody analysis, we aim to identify new biomarkers of B cell autoreactivity. Ultimately, our goal is to define novel therapeutic strategies specifically targeting autoreactive plasma cells, thus advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of autoimmune diseases.
The Position
We are looking for a curious and creative researcher to join our team and broaden our think-tank with their intellectual power and technical excellence. The ideal candidate would have a PhD degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field, and a strong interest in B cell immunology and antibody discovery. In this role, you will contribute to the development of innovative technologies for the characterization of plasma cells in the contexts of various neurological autoimmune disorders.
Required skills
- Proven experience working with B lymphocytes
- Experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g., cloning, vector design, plasmid construction, qPCR, Western blot, etc.)
- Expertise in recombinant protein design and expression using mammalian cell systems
- Experience with antibody expression, purification, and characterization
- Independent thinking with strong problem-solving skills
- Interest in mentoring junior staff members and experience working in interdisciplinary teams
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Additional preferred skills
A strong background in one of the following research areas will be a plus:
- Immunology (including multi-parameter flow cytometry, ELISA, and ELISpot)
- Neurological autoimmune diseases
- Single-cell sequencing technologies
- Bioinformatics
Our offer
- International, diverse, and positive work atmosphere, flexible working environment
- A competitive salary
- Access to training and lecture courses in house as well as in neighboring research institutions on the Life Science Campus in Heidelberg
- Access to a vast network in science and industry
- Job ticket, sponsored fitness contract, complimentary fresh fruit, soft drinks and chocolate team recognition events, etc.
- The post is offered initially for 3 years, with possibility of an extension
Candidates are requested to submit
- 1-page motivation letter explaining the reasons of interest to join our team
- Curriculum Vitae outlining scientific interests, research achievements and a record of publications
- 2 reference letters or contact information of 2 referees
If you are passionate about advancing the field of autoimmune disease research and eager to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, we encourage you to apply.
The position is immediately available. Please submit your application to the attention of Dr. Eleonora Melzi before 15th November 2024 via our online Career Space: https://career.bio.mx/call/2024-BMX-J09
