About BioMed X

BioMed X is an independent research institute with sites in Heidelberg, Germany, New Haven, Connecticut, XSeed Labs in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and a world-wide network of partner locations. We operate at the interface between academia and industry, performing biomedical research and drug discovery & development in the fields of oncology, immunology, neuroscience, platform technologies, and artificial intelligence. All our research projects are sponsored by leading pharmaceutical companies and conducted by early-career scientists recruited from the best schools around the world. The combination of global crowdsourcing with local incubation of the best research talents and ideas allows us to solve the biggest challenges in biomedical research. We stand for free, creative, and curiosity-driven research combined with a solid validation of results, timelines, and deliverables. We serve a large purpose in advancing translational biomedicine by leveraging synergies and fostering cross-pollination across disciplines.

About the Team

The objective of the group Targeting Autoreactive Plasma Cells (TAP), led by Dr. Eleonora Melzi, is to uncover the mechanisms underlying the development and persistence of autoreactive plasma cells and their pathogenic autoantibodies. By employing a combination of state-of-the-art single-cell transcriptomic and high-throughput antibody analysis, we aim to identify new biomarkers of B cell autoreactivity. Ultimately, our goal is to define novel therapeutic strategies specifically targeting autoreactive plasma cells, thus advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of autoimmune diseases.

The Position

We are looking for a curious and creative researcher to join our team and broaden our think tank with their intellectual power and technical excellence. The ideal candidate would have a PhD degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field and a strong interest in B cell immunology and antibody discovery. In this role, you will contribute to the development of innovative technologies for the characterization of plasma cells in the contexts of various neurological autoimmune disorders.

Required skills

  • Proven experience working with B lymphocytes.
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, human primary cell isolation, lymphocytes culture.
  • Expertise in immunological assays, including multi-parameter flow cytometry, ELISA, and ELISpot
